Chapter 25

At noon, everyone in the Su family knew about Su Yu's job transfer.

Su Lin and Liu Mei were both shocked, their jaws dropping.

Liu Mei carefully looked at her elder sister-in-law. She suddenly noticed that her elder sister-in-law had gained weight at some point, and her skin seemed to have a healthier, slightly rosy glow. Confidence radiated between her eyebrows. The key point was that she had joined the unit's Trade Union.

In the past, they used to look down on their elder sister-in-law, but now, when they made a comparison, they couldn't help feeling inferior.

Su Lin, with starry eyes, gazed at her elder sister with admiration. She wanted to pursue education, wasn't it just to have a degree and secure a good job in the future?

Nowadays, even easy jobs require qualifications. A junior high school graduate could at most become an apprentice and work their way up from there. Just like her sister-in-law Liu Mei.

And now, her sister had become an officer in the Trade Union.

Her sister was truly impressive!

"Alright, it's not a big deal. Stay composed. Wherever you work, it's the same. It's all about contributing to the country's development and striving for a better future," Su Yu said in a pretentious tone of teaching.

The entire family nodded together. "Sister, we understand."

Their sister was truly capable! Everything she said made sense.

In the afternoon, Su Yu began the process of handing over her work. When the workers from the department passed by her, they would give her a respectful look.

Su Yu spoke confidently, "Comrades, I believe my experience won't be the last. The factory is aiming to nurture us frontline workers. So, we must work hard, improve our skills, actively learn new ideas and theories, keep up with social development, and there will be plenty of opportunities in the future."

Hearing Su Yu's words, the workers who had initially been somewhat envious and jealous felt a bit fired up.

If Su Yu could go today, perhaps others could go tomorrow.

Who knew if it might be their turn?

Even if it wasn't them, when their own daughters or sons graduated and took over their jobs in the future, they might have a chance.

"Comrades, I'm someone who emerged from our frontline. Going out, I represent our frontline workers. I won't let you down. I've been with you for over a decade, you're like family to me. If you face any difficulties, come to the Trade Union. I will wholeheartedly serve you. The Trade Union exists to alleviate the hardships of workers, to safeguard workers' interests. Whatever inconveniences you had before, you don't need to worry anymore. You can always come to me, your family."

"Su Yu, I've always known you're a good person. Over the years, we've seen that you're reliable."

"Yeah, you might not talk much, but you're really diligent in your work."

"Being able to raise younger siblings shows you have a good character."

"Make sure to come back to visit us often in the future."

Su Yu smiled and hugged a few close people. "Of course, I must come back to see all of you. You're my family."

"In the future, Su Yu will be an official in the union."

"We've got an official among us now." Someone laughed, with a hint of reluctance.

An old comrade was leaving their department just like that. Although they might still meet again in the future, it wouldn't be the same.

"Su Yu, shouldn't you be getting married soon? How's your potential partner? When are you getting married?" An older aunt asked, curious.

Su Yu: "..."

She responded seriously, "Factory work comes first above all. I've just joined the Trade Union, and I need to spend more time serving our fellow workers. Other matters are not a priority for now. My partner is understanding and reasonable. Their ideology must align with mine. After all, over these years, I've supported their work too. Revolutionary comrades need to support each other."

Everyone thought about how Su Yu hadn't gotten married all these years. It seemed like they were both supporting each other's careers. Now that Su Yu was working, the partner should wait as well.

After bidding farewell to everyone, Su Yu headed straight to the office to find Director Xu.

Su Xiaozhi's work was still under Director Xu's purview.

As someone managing a production department, Director Xu's opinions were quite influential.

"Director Xu, I've almost finished the handover. Tomorrow morning, I'll be heading over to the Trade Union."

Now that Su Yu was a Trade Union officer, her status in Director Xu's eyes had naturally changed.

She smiled and said, "Make sure to visit often in the future."

"I definitely plan to come back often. After all, I've spent so many years here. We have a strong bond. Most importantly, Director Xu, you've provided me with tremendous help, and I've always remembered that. Please don't take this as flattery, but I've always regarded you as a mentor. Without your guidance, I wouldn't be where I am today."

"Look at what you're saying," Director Xu smiled, squinting her eyes.

The same words, spoken by different people in different roles, carried different weight. When it came from someone successful, it wasn't just heartwarming; it felt genuinely meaningful. It hadn't been in vain to look out for Su Yu. This might develop into a valuable connection in the future.

The workplace was a place where personal relationships mattered; you never knew when they would come in handy. The key was that Su Yu was sincere in her gratitude.

"By the way, Director, after I leave, will my position be open for recruitment?"

Director Xu nodded, "Yes, we'll need to recruit externally later on."

Su Yu's eyes lit up instantly, and she asked with anticipation, "Director, what about our Xiaozhi?"

"But Xiaozhi is a young man. Isn't being a textile worker not suitable for him?" Director Xu was surprised. The main concern was that she had a personal interest in the matter.

"I understand, Director Xu. To be honest, for such a good position, I'm not comfortable with him taking it as a young man. This kind of role should be reserved for a young woman. Don't you have a niece working in the fabric department? Her current job there is physically demanding and not good for her health. Let her take over my position. During my conversation with the factory committee today, they also asked for my opinion, and I brought up this idea."

"The factory committee asked you too?"

"Yes, the officer over there and I get along well. She talked to me about many things related to recruitment."

Director Xu said, "So, what did you mention about Xiaozhi?"

"I thought that having an additional spot like this would be beneficial. Xiaozhi doesn't need an exceptional job; having a secure position would be enough. He can continue with his manual labor outside. Boys should be able to handle some physical work. What's there to be afraid of?"

Director Xu started considering the matter.

Although she personally wanted to bring her niece to her department, as a leader, she couldn't make it too obvious. After all, apart from her family, there were other workers with children who needed jobs. It could easily lead to dissatisfaction.

If Su Yu managed to pull this off, it would make things much smoother. Who could criticize the factory's decision?

"Su Yu, can you make it happen?"

"I'll try." Su Yu replied.

"Alright, if the factory committee agrees, then it shouldn't be a problem. We can address the issue of Xiaozhi's job position."

When Su Yu arrived at the factory committee office, a few staff members were working.

Seeing Officer Tian going through some documents, Su Yu loudly said with a smile, " Officer Tian, I've come to talk to you about recruitment matters..."

Officer Tian's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly asked, "Comrade Su Yu, what's going on?"

Officer Gao, puzzled, said, "What recruitment matters? Didn't you already transfer? Why are we still recruiting?"

Officer Tian widened her eyes.

Su Yu chuckled and said, " Officer Tian, weren't you asking for my opinion?"

"Comrade Su Yu..."

"It's about the recruitment for our production department. I've completed the handover for my role, but we need someone to take over. So, I thought of recruiting new workers. It's too late to bring in external candidates. Comrade Xu Juhua from the dyed cloth workshop is a good choice; our leaders have no objections. That's why I've come to get a job transfer form for her. This matter, Secretary Tian, is it something you're responsible for?"

Creating such a commotion for the transfer of a frontline worker, what a big fuss!

A weight was lifted off Officer Tian's mind, and she nodded, "Yes."

Then she took out a job transfer form from the drawer. Frontline workers switch departments all the time; they're still in the same workshop, so what's the difference?

"Officer Tian, thank you. By the way, could you kindly call the dyeing department and ask Comrade Xu Juhua to come here to fill out the form? Otherwise, I'll have to make another trip. This recruitment matter isn't easy to handle."

Officer Tian impatiently picked up the phone and dialed an internal extension. The call was quickly answered on the other end.

"Notify Comrade Xu Juhua to come to the factory committee."

With the call from the factory committee, it didn't take two minutes for Xu Juhua to hurriedly run over, breathing heavily.

"Comrade Juhua, I'm heading to the Trade Union today. Please quickly fill out the form and go through the handover with me. I'm leaving early tomorrow morning."

Xu Juhua had already been instructed by her aunt before coming. Without hesitation, she started filling out the form.

Once she finished, Su Yu handed the form to Xu Juhua. "Comrade Juhua, please go find the leaders and have them sign the form. The factory committee is about to close for the day. Let's complete everything today to avoid another trip tomorrow."

Xu Juhua promptly took the form and went to the department to get the leaders' signatures.

Transferring a frontline worker was relatively easy. As long as the factory committee issued the directive, there were usually no major obstacles.

Knowing that Xu Juhua had been called over by the factory committee and with Director Xu's prior notice, the leaders signed without hesitation. After the signatures, Xu Juhua went to Director Xu for her signature, and finally, she brought the form back to the factory committee to get the official seal. Then the matter was settled.

Su Yu had been waiting at the factory committee office and, after seeing the signatures, got up to leave. She chatted with Officer Tian, " Officer Tian, you're really easy to get along with. Every time I think about the sincere words you shared with me before, I'm touched."

Administrative Assistant Gao chimed in, " What words are those?"

" How can I put it… it's the kind words from a fellow woman," Su Yu chuckled.

Officer Tian's mouth twisted a few times as she kept touching her head. She now regretted saying those things to Su Yu. She realized that Su Yu was a bit of a simpleton, someone who didn't distinguish appropriate moments or timing, and didn't understand the gravity of situations.

Especially when it came to not knowing how irritating she could be!

It wasn't until Xu Juhua arrived with the form that Su Yu, seeing Officer Tian stamping the paperwork, got up and said, "Well, Officer Tian, I need to get back to work now. I'm truly grateful to you."

With that, she left, wearing a cheerful smile.

"Comrade Su Yu is quite eloquent. She seems well-suited for the Trade Union," Officer Gao commented.

Officer Tian frowned, twisted her mouth, but didn't say anything. She felt that Su Yu going to the Trade Union was a good idea. Such individuals might even help break down the union from within.

Back in the department, Director Xu had been waiting. When she saw Su Yu bring Xu Juhua along, a few workers asked, "Is this Director Xu's niece?"

"No, it's Comrade Xu Juhua. She just finished the paperwork with the factory committee and will be taking over my position. You won't believe it, but the factory committee's efficiency is really high. I'm leaving today, and they've already sorted it out."

"The factory committee arranged it?"

"Yes, since I was in a rush to leave, external recruitment wasn't feasible, so we're doing an internal transfer. It saves time."

"Is it settled? So quickly?" They hadn't even had the chance to take action yet.

"Can the factory committee be slow in handling matters?"

"Was it arranged by Director Xu?"

Su Yu said, "Well, Director Xu didn't even go to the factory committee. It was Comrade Xu Juhua who wanted to come here, submitted the application form to the factory committee, and they agreed. Do you think Director Xu would have any objections?"

"..."

Things moved too fast this time!

After a brief handover with Xu Juhua, Su Yu returned to her department to continue her handover process.

Everything happened so quickly, catching them off guard.

Once everything in the department had been settled, Su Yu went to find Director Xu again.

Director Xu smiled and said, "Work diligently, and don't worry about Xiaozhi's matters."

From this incident, she also saw Su Yu's network. She wasn't just noticed by the Trade Union but seemed to have connections with people from the factory committee as well.

Su Yu was willing to help her, so she was willing to assist Su Yu.

A job position was the same for anyone. Since they couldn't get all the benefits themselves, it was better to offer a bit of favor to Su Yu.
